Two Men Arrested For Killing Woman in Spokane

By Paige Browning

Spokane Police have arrested two men for suspicion of fatally shooting a woman early Monday. Police arrested the men at about 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, just 24 hours after the woman, a mother, was killed.
Officers arrested 23 year old Jonathan Ritchey for a murder domestic violence charge, and 45 year old Gary Stoddard for murder and kidnapping.
Spokane Police Commander Brad Arleth says they suspected kidnapping because they found handcuffs around one of the woman’s wrists.  She was found shot to death outside of an apartment complex near Spokane Falls Community College.
Arleth says the woman and Ritchey share an 18 month old child.  Arleth says it’s obvious the killing was domestic violence related.
Arleth: “Although this is a terrible tragedy that a young woman is dead, I think it should at least also ease some community fears about random violence.”
Both Ritchey and Stoddard have criminal backgrounds, and Stoddard had an active warrant out for his arrest.  Ritchey had his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.
The medical examiner has not yet completed work to officially identify the woman.  Her death marks the fourth homicide in Spokane since New Year’s Eve.
