Oregon Governor Announces Re-Election Bid

By Chris Lehman

Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber says he's running for re-election. The Democrat kicked off his bid for a record fourth term in the Oregon governor's office Monday. Kitzhaber said he's proud of the role he's played in getting Oregon's economy moving after the recession. But he said the jobs that have been created since he took office aren't enough.

John Kitzhaber: "Most of these jobs are coming in at the top and the bottom of the economic ladder, leaving out the kind of middle-income jobs that we all know are so important and so critical in creating prosperity and long-term economic stability."

Kitzhaber's announcement was widely expected. It appears he'll have no significant opposition for the Democratic nomination. Two Republicans are vying for the job: State representative Dennis Richardson and central Oregon rancher Jon Justesen.
