The Arts & Humanities Are Our Mission

At Spokane Public Radio, we do things a little differently than at other public radio stations.
We were founded on the mission of incorporating the local arts and arts organizations into
what we do every day.

The station holds seven free family concerts a year to introduce kids to a wide variety of music.
In mid-February each year, we host the biggest sale of vintage vinyl and other music items at our
Recordings & Videos Sale. Each fall, we put on a two hour concert with live performances from
the campus of Spokane Community College at the Fall Folk Festival. A summer highlight for many
is our lovliest event of all, An Evening Under the Stars, held under a full moon on the grounds of
Arbor Crest Wine Cellars.

In addition to these annual treats, we thank our volunteers and underwriters each year with an
event at a community venue, and produce many special events like the recent Jazz for Chas at
Lincoln Center and evenings with NPR's Carl Kasell and Cokie Roberts.

Of course our mission wouldn't be complete without weekly live performances from our
broadcast studios, along with our annual forums held at City Hall, open houses and community
meetings, and (most importantly!), our on-air pledge drives twice a year.

With the help of over 300 volunteers, 30 staff and community producers, and you, our listeners,
Spokane Public Radio has become a place where the community turns for live and on-air arts
and cultural experiences.
