The Nacho Celtic Hour

KPBX 91.1, Sunday, 2pm-3pm

This introduction ushers you into a weekly Sunday afternoon radio variety program of folk and kids' music with Spokane musician Carlos Alden. You are most likely to tune in to traditional and non-traditional Celtic selections, but you might stumble into a program of 19th century banjo styles, or women folksingers, or an exploration of the connections between
Celtic and Middle Eastern music, or a studio show featuring
local artists.

The second half of the program always features kid musicians old and new. This spans the spectrum from vintage 1950's Pete Seeger sing-a-longs to contemporary musicians Trout Fishing In America singing about bad hair days or Barry Louis Polisar describing the ups and downs of potty training in glorious song. There is usually a recorded storytime, too, featuring the work of BIll Harley, Bill Wellington, Armstrong and Aichelle, Sharon Kennedy, and many others.

And don't ignore the public service section of the show: the monthly readings of important holidays (such as procrastinator's week and national snack food day), Important Information You Should Know, and of course The Celtic Answer Man, answering telephone inquiries about Celtic Music, Celtic Culture, and Celtic Relationship Problems.

And last but not least, a calendar of local events of interest to musicians and people with kids. Tune in Sundays from 2-3pm to KPBX for this potpourri of folk music, kid music, oddball humor, and general fun. Give it a try.

About Carlos

Carlos, it is said, was spawned from parents who were exposed to massive radiation leaks while working on a goat ranch near the original Hanford site, although he claims to be adopted. His musical roots are so diverse that hints of Django Reinhardt, Bela Fleck, Hendrix, and other muses bubble up through his playing, often in the same song. Carlos plays cittern, banjo, and guitar for the Celtic Nots. He can be occasionally seen telling bad jokes and leading singalongs of contemporary kid songs for children and their adults. Teen singer/songwriter Michaela Alden is his fault.
