Angela Mariani hosts this weekly program exploring the world of Early
Music, from the transcendent sounds of Anonymous 4, to the sublime realm
of Chant, to the passion of an Italian Baroque violin sonata. Harmonia
is produced in conjunction with Indiana University's world-renowned Early
Music Institute.

The Latest Lully
This week on Harmonia we'll focus on two new recordings of operas by Jean-Baptiste
Lully. Dynamic performances by the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra
as well as La Simphonie du Marais will excite the soul and make you want
to jump up and dance. In addition, we'll also enjoy a new release by the
Hilliard Ensemble.

The Art of Diminution
Instrumentalists have been admiring and imitating the voice for hundreds
of years. During the Renaissance, a cornettist or violinist would have
gone even further by taking a popular song and decorating it. This week
on Harmonia we'll listen to examples of how instrumentalists created diminutions
out of music by Palestrina, Crequillon, and others. A new release by Le
Concert d'Astree will also be featured.

Psalm 42
This week on Harmonia we'll listen to settings of Psalm 42 – As pants
the hart for cooling streams. Italy, Germany, France, England, and America
will be represented as we explore a lesser-known yet beautiful psalm.
A new release by harpsichordist Davitt Moroney on the Plectra label will
also be featured.

Commemorating Fasch
Harmonia will mark the 250th anniversary of the death of Johann Friedrich
Fasch with a commemoration of his life as an exceptional composer. A new
release of French baroque cantatas by Ensemble Battistin will also be

Feast of the Pheasant
1454 A look at the extravagant medieval banquet known as the Feast of
the Pheasant, the event was intended to kick-off a crusade. Also a reconstruction
of its music by Ensemble Gilles Binchois and a new release by Ensemble

The Corellisti
A look at the different types of pieces that were created in Arcangelo
Corelli’s honor, with highlights from composers: Veracini, Geminiani,
Couperin, and Telemann. We’ll also listen to a new release of Handel’s
opera “Semele.”

The Ursuline Manuscript
Celebrate the 4th of July with a trip to the Deep South. The French ensemble
Le Concert Lorrain will perform excerpts from the “Ursuline Manuscript,”
the sole surviving collection of music from 18th-century New Orleans.
