Free Concerts for the Whole Family

For more than 20 years, KPBX Kids' Concerts have brought different genres of music and performances to generations of children. These family concerts are at the heart of the station's mission to provide music awareness and entertainment to our listening region, which compliments our on-air programming. Eight free one-hour concerts are held throughout the year at rotating venues. At each concert, attendees may be treated to a mix of music and historical information. Each KPBX Kids' Concert highlights a musical style. Past concerts have featured classical, jazz, big band, folk, bluegrass, latin, calypso, reggae, klezmer, rockabilly, and lots more.  ALL KPBX KIDS' CONCERTS ARE FREE.

Coming up this Fall:

Urban Coyote Bush Band
Sat, Oct 4, 2014  1-2 p.m. at the River Park Square atrium
Folk songs from the Australian Outback, which sound surprisingly similar to the old country songs of the Wild West.

Since its inception in Spokane in 1982, the Urban Coyote Bush Band has carried the spirit and flavor of Australian folk music to audiences throughout the Northwest. Group members include Ken Raymond, Paul Tapp, and Jim Roberts;  but they are much more than a four-piece band. Among them they play guitar, bass, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, banjo, pennywhistle, accordion, bouzouki, bodhran and lagerphone (an Australian rhythm instrument fashioned from bottlecaps).

In addition to music from Down Under, they also add tunes and songs from Appalachia and the Celtic lands.  Known for their harmonies and the rollicking lyrics of their songs, they please crowds of all ages. Particularly with younger audiences, they enjoy getting people up on stage to “help out” with their renditions.

Hope in Hard Times
Sat, Nov 22, 2014  1-2 p.m. at the Bing Crosby Theater
Brad Keeler and Linda Parman present a survey of music from the Depression era, from Woody Guthrie to Hollywood.
