From the Home of the Blues and the Birthplace of Rock and Roll, it’s time for the best in Blues on Beale Street Caravan!

Beale Street Caravan is a one hour radio series broadcasting live recordings of Memphis music and its derivative forms to an international audience of 2.4 million worldwide weekly listeners on over 400 stations around the globe. Hosted by Pat Mitchell, each program presents seasoned veterans alongside up and coming artists recorded at festivals and venues throughout the United States. Music industry experts and celebrities liven up each program with serialized inside commentary about the history & process of the music.




About the Host:
Pat Mitchell joined the Beale Street Caravan staff in 1996. In 2000, she hosted a live television broadcast of the National Civil Rights Museum's Freedom Award Ceremony, featuring a rare American speech by honoree Nelson Mandela. She also completed narration for her first documentary Visualizing the Blues, a photographic exhibit on the American South that is scheduled to Tour the United States until 2005.

Mitchell contributes to several alternative weeklies and music publications around the nation, as well as acting as an independent consultant to a diverse group of music organizations. She serves on the Board of Governors of the Memphis chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and was recently elected Secretary/Treasurer of the chapter. She also chairs the Recording Academy's regional MusiCares Committee.

An avid music lover, Mitchell helps organize annual Memphis events such as the Urban Grammy Showcase, Musician' s Health Fair and Independent Label Forum. She sits on the Memphis and Shelby County Music Commission and the Board of Directors of Surviving Artist, an organization that helps artists with financial planning and tax consultation. She is co-founder of the Memphis Area Music Awards and the Mystic Salivators.

Mitchell is an energetic volunteer, from teaching classes at the Memphis Literacy Council and volunteering at her church to organizing school supply drives for area students and creating Holiday Angel Trees for Native American children. She is currently writing a travel book and developing a documentary on downtown Memphis.
